Partial Eclipse of the Sun

On Friday 20th March the UK will be able to see a partial eclipse of the sun.

Dear Parents

On Friday 20th March, observers in a slice of the northern hemisphere will be treated to one of nature’s most impressive phenomena – a total eclipse of the Sun. This rare spectacle will not be visible again from Europe until 2026. The Faroe Islands will be able to view a total eclipse and the UK will be treated to an impressive partial event.

Following suggestions from Penny (Hermione’s Mum) and Aulani (Koa’s Mum) we are keen for our pupils to observe this special event. In this area it should take place between 9.15am and 9.45am. It is of paramount importance that we are able to watch safely and as such the OSA has kindly funded the purchase of eclipse viewing glasses (with certified solar filter) for all our pupils. Penny and Aulani will talk to the children about the solar eclipse and on the day all pupils will be given safety briefing before going out to view. We would be very grateful if parents were able to stay and support the younger pupils.

Please could you complete and return a reply slip (available from Carolyn in the office).
