Well done to the choir who performed at Stroud High School
Dear parents

Well done to the choir who performed at Stroud High School last Thursday. Their voices were truly amazing. Along with 3 other schools they performed two songs separately and then together sang as a united 4 school choir. Thank you to Mrs Modaley who as ever prepared the children so well.

We will be saying goodbye to two members of staff at the end of this term. Miss Schofield is moving with her family to the Lake District. She has worked as a dinner supervisor for over nine years. We thank her for her dedication with the children for all those years. We also say goodbye to Mrs Saunders who will be taking on a new post after Easter. She has worked in Class 2 since September and helped all the children in so many ways. We wish them both success for the future.

A final thank you to Mr Tim Hampton who has led the chess club for many years. Over these years he would have worked with countless numbers of children. Thank you Tim for your commitment and effort over such a significant period.

Class 1 and 2 trip to ‘We the curious’

A few weeks ago the children from class 1 and 2 visited ‘We the curious’ in Bristol. Here is an account by Layla and Amelia C.  Layla said that she had a fun day and would definitely go again.  Amelia also enjoyed it even though she didn’t expect to as it was her 4th visit!  They both liked the forces workshop with loads of furbies!

Wake and Shake

This has been taking place each Friday since the beginning of Term 4. It has been a great way to start the last day of the week. Many thanks to Miss Elliott who leads us each Friday morning.

Class 1 and 2 support for Terms 5 and 6

The following arrangement will be in place for class 1 and 2 for the summer term.

HLTA support for class 2 will continue to be in place all day Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with Mr Paul Winder joining us on 23rd April.

On Thursday and Friday morning there will be change. Mrs. Modaley will focus on the Y5/6 and Mrs. Gray will teach Y2/3/4. Under the direction of Mrs. Gray, Mrs. Chapman will lead the R and Y1 teaching. We believe that all children will benefit under this arrangement. Please come and speak to me if you have any queries about this arrangement.

Wildlife Quiz

On Friday 29th March, Amelia C, Frankie, Joly, Monty with Ameila A-K in reserve took part in the Primary School Wildlife Quiz.  We were drawn against Leonard Stanley and the final score was Oakridge 34, Leonard Stanley 28.  We should hear shortly who we will be against in the next round. Well done to the team and thank you to both Mrs Hayes and Mr Craine for their help in preparing the team for the quiz.

New Headteacher

On behalf of all of us at Oakridge and Bisley Schools I would like to congratulate Jonathan Preston on his appointment.  Over the coming months he will be working closely with us to ensure a smooth transition for September.

Well done to the following children Alex, Layla, Matilda, Stan and Thea, who took part in the recent KS2 cross county event at Thomas Keble School. Congratulations particularly to Alex who came 4th in his race.  Well done to Noah who took part in the KS1 cross country event on Tuesday at Painswick.

It was an exciting day for Frankie and Layla who took part in a netball elite coaching event in Stroud a few weeks ago.

Congratulations to Charlie B who last Friday joined a team from Bisley to take part in a Panathlon. Out of 16 teams from Stroud schools we came first ! What an amazing result .

For the first time we will be taking a cycling team to an inter school event in the first week after the Easter break. We wish them the best of luck.

Parents’ Evening

Thank you for coming to the recent parents’ evenings. I hope you found it helpful in enabling you to understand the progress your child or children are making. We appreciate the partnership and close working relationship you have with us which only helps your children to thrive at school.

School arrival

A reminder – School starts at 8.55am when registers are read. Any child arriving after the register is read is recorded as late in the register.  Please make every effort to arrive on time. The school has a statutory responsibility to record attendance and report absences including unauthorized ones. Thank you for your support.

May I wish you all a very happy Easter. We look forward to seeing you all again in the summer term
