Newsletter 6 24.01.19

We are now well into the Spring Term.

Dear parents

We are now well into the Spring Term. Lighter mornings and the gradual lengthening of each day hopefully gives us all an extra kick in our step!

It has been good to watch the children and staff  settle back into routine and to witness the great work that is going on.

We began the year with a the Quicksticks hockey tournament in Stroud where we played against other schools from the Stroud area. They all competed  well showing great enthusiasm and effort. They  came a credible third. Well done to Alex, Amelia, Anouska, Frankie, Joly, Layla, Matilda, Monty and Stan.

With your support we take maximum advantage of our time available at Stroud Leisure Centre. For the first hour, children from class 1 are being taught a gymnastics unit of lessons and we have netball lessons for class 2.  Following a quick change the last hour is for swimming where children are taught in different ability groups. It is proving to be a great experience for children  as they would not be able to do these activities at school.

Teaching and learning

We continue, across both schools to ensure that all children have the very best opportunities to excel. Throughout this term and since September we challenge ourselves through a carefully planned monitoring and evaluation schedule. This programme is led myself and includes teachers and governors who look to see what is going on at school. Activities include lesson observations, looking at children’s books, talking with children about their work, conducting questionnaires  and looking at the assessments that teachers make. All this information is regularly reported back at governor meetings where governors have the opportunity to ask questions in order to challenge the school further. We believe that by doing this our children will be successful. Please speak to me if you have any further questions about this.

Progress continues to ‘grow’ in this project.  We continue to work closely with all to ensure we can get the very best from this work. Furthermore training has been arranged for staff and parents linked to the allotment and the outdoor learning environment on Monday 4th February 1-3 pm. Please contact the school or Gill Skeffington for more information.

Dressing for the cold weather

Winter is with us and anytime that we are outside we will all feel the cold. Please ensure that your children always bring a coat and are suitable dressed with layers for PE. This will include an extra fleece and leggings/jogging/tracking /bottoms.

Attached to the newsletter is a summary of the key functions of a governing body and the current members who serve are listed on the governor page of our website. I hope  you find it useful.

Dismissal of children at the end of the school day

In order to ensure the safe dismissal of children at 3.15pm  I have from Wednesday put in place  the following actions . Children in class 1 will be dismissed from their classroom door once a parent or an agreed person is seen. Children in class 2 will stay by the wall until a parent or agreed person arrives. Children must not leave the wall and play until this has happened. Any child not collected will be kept in school until their parent or agreed adult comes to collect.
