Class 1 Newsletter Term 2

Welcome back.  We hope you had a lovely half term

Welcome back we hope you have had a lovely half term. We had a great start to the school year and have enjoyed linking with Bisley for Copsegrove, forest school and art week. We hope to continue this link and have more planned activities together for the year ahead.

This term our topic is EMERGENCY! Linked to key events from the past and how the emergency service supports us to this day. We will be looking at key events such as Bonfire night and Remembrance Day and how these are linked to the World Wars and the gunpowder plot.  We will also be looking at key events in the religious calendars namely Diwali and Christmas.

Homework: Reading is key to your child’s success in all areas and we would encourage you to read with your child daily. Please do record when your child has read into their yellow reading dairy and also what other books you are sharing at home as we can discuss these with your child. This term will be supplementing our phonics bugs books with others from our guided reading scheme so that the children are exposed to a wide variety of text. We will also be sending home key word sheets for your children to learn to read by sight and to spell. We are also having a focus on handwriting in school with the aim for the children to gain their pen licences and be able to join.

  • Spellings sheets will be sent home will all children on a Friday to share the phonics we have done that week. Children will be encouraged to spell these correctly in their work.
  • Maths sheets will also be sent home regularly and online homework will be set via MyMaths, in addition to this any practice of number bonds and times tables will help your child with their 99 club each Friday.

P.E: will be on Mondays and Wednesdays. Please ensure that your child comes to school on those days in their P.E kits.

School uniform: please ensure your child wears correct uniform and that all clothing is named. Slippers can be worn inside school if your child wishes. Wellies can be sent in to school for your child to wear outside. Please name slippers and wellies and check jumpers and school coats are named. Please continue to maintain the good standards of uniform we have seen in Term One and refrain from wearing bright trainers on non PE days. There is a large amount of lost property in the office that we will be sent to a charity shop if not claimed in the first two weeks of term.

Water bottles and snack: Please continue to send our child in with a filled water bottle daily, although the hot weather is behind us the need to stay hydrated remains. Juice is for lunchtime drinks. Healthy snacks may be eaten such as fruit (not chocolate or crisps) during break, fruit/vegetables are provided for class one along with milk.
