Class 2 Newsletter

Term 1

Welcome to Class 2! I hope you had a relaxing break over the summer holidays and that your children are feeling ready for an exciting year of learning. We have some new children who have started in our class as well as children from Class 1 - we welcome them all to our class. As well as children starting we also welcome Mrs Sanders who is with us every morning and Mrs Butcher on a Wednesday morning when I am not in school.

Each term I will write a newsletter to inform you about what we are learning along with some general information to help support your child through the year and dates for your diary. There will be a general information meeting which you are invited to next Thursday 13th September at 3:20 pm.

This term our topic is Tribes which is based on the Native North American history and is cross-curricular. Attached is our curriculum overview for this term. Our topic will be kick started with a visitor to our class.

Thank you to the children for the fantastic homework they have completed over the holidays which are displayed in class. This year our focus for homework will be spellings. In addition to the weekly spellings handed out, a spelling workbook will also accompany these.

  • Spellings will be tested on Wednesdays.
  • Homework will go out on Thursdays and in for the following Tuesday.
  • Maths homework will either be a mymaths activity or from the arithmetic workbook.
  • Times tables – please ensure your child practises their tables regularly. These will be tested on the 99 Club on a Friday.
  •  Reading – 3 times a week.
  • Termly creative topic task for last 2 weeks of the term.P.E: will be on Mondays and Wednesdays. The first session is Monday 10th September. Please ensure that your child comes to school on those days in their P.E kits.

School uniform: please ensure your child wears correct uniform and that all clothing is named. We had a huge pile of clothes which was unclaimed at the end of the summer term. Slippers can be worn inside school if your child wishes.

Water bottles and snack: Only water should be sent into school in water bottles. Juice is for lunchtime drinks. Healthy snacks may be eaten such as fruit (not chocolate or crisps) during break.
