Class 1 Newsletter

Term 1 2018

Welcome to Class 1! We hope that you have had a great summer and that your children have enjoyed their first week back. We are very excited to be teaching together again and have lots of things planned for the year ahead. It has been very nice to welcome back familiar faces and new ones and we now have a class of TEN.

Each term we will write a newsletter to inform you about what we are learning along with some general information to help support your child through the year and dates for your diary. There will be a general information meeting which you are invited to next Friday 14th September at 3:20 pm.

This term our topic is cowboys and Native Americans and is closely linked to the KS2 topic of tribes. This will allow us to share our learning throughout the school. This is a cross curricular topic and will link closely to our science, Art, DT and science work. A curriculum map is attached to this letter.

Homework: In class one we will send home reading books for you to share with your children each evening along with phonics and key words for daily practice. All of the children have already had a phonics, maths, reading and spelling assessment this week and new reading books were sent home yesterday. In addition to this the following will be sent home

  • Spellings sheets will be sent home will all children on a Friday to share the phonics we have done that week. Children will be encouraged to spell these correctly in their work.
  • Maths homework will be set via MyMaths, in addition to this any practice of number bonds and times tables will help your child with their 99 club each Friday.

P.E: will be on Mondays and Wednesdays. The first session is Monday 10th September. Please ensure that your child comes to school on those days in their P.E kits.

School uniform: please ensure your child wears correct uniform and that all clothing is named. Slippers can be worn inside school if your child wishes. Wellies can be sent in to school for your child to wear outside.

Water bottles and snack: We have given each child a water bottle which they will bring home each night to wash and refill with Water. Juice is for lunchtime drinks. Healthy snacks may be eaten such as fruit (not chocolate or crisps) during break, fruit/vegetables are provided for class one along with milk.

Forest School: Will be held on some Wednesdays – dates to follow. This will be with Class 1 at Bisley and will look at seasonal change.
