May Revels thanks and Sept 18

I would like to start by saying an enormous thank you and well done

Dear Parents

May Revels

I would like to start by saying an enormous thank you and well done to everyone who helped make the May Revels such a success last Saturday. With a small team it is a huge amount of dedication and work and your efforts are very much appreciated by us all at school. The fundraising is hugely important but equally as valuable is the enjoyment of the event by our pupils and the memories it creates.

Staffing September 2018.

I am thrilled to be able to share some exciting news about teaching arrangements in the new academic year.

In September Mrs Hayes will increase her teaching days in Class 1 from two to three. We will be recruiting for the two day position (job share) for Class 1 and keep you informed when an appointment has been made.

Due to a very small intake of pupils in Reception both last year and this year, the number of children in Class 1 will be significantly reduced and a contrast to the numbers in Class 2. As a result we have worked together as staff and governors to consider how best we structure the teaching in order to secure the best outcomes for all our pupils. For the academic year 2018/19 we will continue with two classes; Class 1 Reception / Y1 / Y2 and Class 2 Y3 / Y4 / Y5 and Y6. However, during the morning English and maths sessions pupils will be organised into three groups. This means the Y3/Y4 pupils will be taught separately from the Y5/Y6 pupils. We will be advertising for a HLTA (Higher Level Teaching Assistant – qualification required) to assist with the teaching of the groups. Higher Level Teaching Assistants do all the things that regular teaching assistants do but they have an increased level of responsibility. HLTAs can teach classes on their own and cover planned absences. They work under the direction of the class teachers. This has been made possible due to the support of the Oakridge Trust Fund. We believe this to be an exciting plan which will ensure all our pupils are taught in small focussed groups.

Miss Hawkins continues to be absent due to illness. We look forward to welcoming her back in Term 6.

If you have any questions in relation to the above please contact me to discuss further.

School places September 2018.

If you know of anyone who is still looking for a school place or undecided about their choice we would be delighted to show them around our gem of a school. Please spread the word!

Yours sincerely

Lisa Austin
