Safer Internet Day 2017

Tuesday 7th February 2017 is Safer Internet Day

Dear Parents and carers

Tuesday 7th February 2017 is ‘Safer Internet Day’ throughout the International Community.  The purpose of this is to raise awareness to all digital users of the potential of the internet, positive and negative.  It aims to upskill and inform our children in the responsible use of using the internet and the effects it can have if it is used inappropriately.  On the day the children at our school will be doing activities to raise their own awareness of personal information sharing, talking to strangers on the internet and mindfulness of the consequences of their own use.

This is also an opportunity for parents and carers to look at information to inform of the potential of using digital devices and how you can operate Parental control over your child’s use.  By accessing the  site  www.childnet.com/parents-and-carers

The children will be watching an age appropriate film tackling certain areas of the internet.

For KS1 the film is ‘Ask before you watch’ with a character called Sid.

For KS2 the film is ‘The bigger picture’.

Both these films can be accessed on the site saferinternet.org.uk.

In order for your child to watch these films the school would like your permission.  Please could you fill in the permission slip which has been sent home with the children.  Permission forms are also available from Carolyn in the school office.

Thank you for your co-operation.
