Newsletter 3

We hope you all had a relaxing Easter Break and wish you a warm welcome back to Term 5.

We hope you all had a relaxing Easter Break and wish you a warm welcome back to the Summer Terms. Included in this newsletter are some key dates known so far, we will provide more details about the events included as the term progresses.

Cricket.

Our Class 2 pupils will again be taking part in the Chance to Shine cricket programme. A qualified coach will be coming into school for ten weeks to provide cricket teaching on a Thursday afternoons so KS2 pupils will need their PE kits in school that day. He will also be running an after school club open to pupils from both Oakridge and Bisley schools. More information about the club will follow this week.

Public Speaking Competition.

We congratulate Sebastian and Vieve who are our winners this year. As the school finalists they will represent our school at the final taking place at Thomas Keble School this week on Thursday. The Year 9 students who judged the competition at school were extremely impressed with the quality of all the presentations and how confidently our pupils spoke. Good luck Sebastian who will be talking about Quantum Physics and Vieve who will be talking about monkeys.

Experience Pentecost.

Thank you to those parents who have already volunteered to support this event taking place on the afternoon of Monday 20th May. We are still seeking more helpers to take part in the event in church so if you are available we would very much appreciate your support.

Curriculum overview.

Attached to this letter is the curriculum overview providing some information about the topics your child / children will be covering in class this term.  As always, if you feel that there is something you could contribute to enhancing learning in relation to any of the subject areas please speak with us. As you will see Class 2 are studying local history, we are already in touch with the history society but would be very appreciative of any extra local expertise. Click here to download a copy.

Ofsted report.

Some of you may have heard that Bisley School was inspected at the end of last term. As myself and the governors at Bisley expected, it identifies that the school is “improving rapidly” with many good areas, while requiring further improvement in specific areas. The report gives an accurate and clear assessment of the school and identifies the positive impact of the partnership with Oakridge stating, “The headteacher is making effective use of links with the partner school to model best practice for teachers”. It also recognises that the joint planning the teachers from both schools have done together provide exciting and stimulating activities which “contribute strongly to the good provision for the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of children”.  If you would like to see the full report it is available on the Ofsted website.

End of Term 6 performance.

We are thrilled to have confirmed a booking at the Cotswold Playhouse for our end of year performance. The musical Hoodwinked will involve all pupils at the school and be performed on stage on Thursday 18th July. This will be the first time we have used the Playhouse and we are looking forward to the exciting opportunity that this will provide our pupils and families who come to watch. More information about the organisation will follow but if you would like to be involved in supporting with the making of scenery or costumes please let us know.
